DELANO, MN - DECEMBER 10, 2016 - The Tiger wrestlers continued their impressive start to the 2016-17 season - by winning the team title in their home Delano Invitational for the second consecutive year - finishing the tournament with 220 team points. St. Peter placed second, Becker third, and Watertown-Mayer/Mayer Lutheran was fourth. Complete team scores can be found below.
Delano had five individual champions to lead the way. Carson Tschudi won the 120 lb. bracket, with a 7-1 decision in the finals. Tanner Kroells won the 126 lb. bracket with a decision of 5-2 in his finals match. Tucker Sjomeling won the 138 lb. bracket with a pin in 1:33 in the finals. Steven Hajas won the 220 lb. bracket with a decision of 6-5 in the championship match. And Walker Russek won the Hwt. bracket with a decision of 3-0 in the finals.
As they did a week before at the Fridley Invitational, Delano received lots of team points all throughout their lineup. Reier Sjomeling placed 2nd in the 113 lb. bracket. Another 2nd place finish was Edward Hajas in the 195 lb. bracket. The Tigers had two 3rd-place finishers. Camden Tschudi at 152 and Samson Streachek at 182 each placed 3rd in their brackets. Eli McCune placed 5th at 160 lbs and Tyson Kroells did not place at 106 lbs.
Senior Tucker Sjomeling earned the Pinner’s Award in the tournament - as he had the most pins in the least amount of match time. He pinned all three opponents on the day in the first period - in times of 1:18, 1:54, and 1:33.
The Tigers host the New Prague Trojans in a WCC East dual this Thursday, December 15. JV matches will begin at 6 PM, with the varsity dual to follow. The dual will be in the HS Gymnasium at Delano High School. On Saturday, the Tigers travel
